Straw Hat Press is run by co-founders and Master Printers: Laura Cleary and Shaun McCallum. Cleary and McCallum both graduated from SCAD-Atlanta’s MFA Printmaking program. While at SCAD each worked with SCAD's publishing press, Southeastern Center for Printmaking, where they had the opportunity to work together on a collaboration with renowned artists Kiki Smith and Valerie Hammond.

Laura is Straw Hat’s shop manager and etching specialist. Along with managing the day to day running of the shop, she is also responsible for the internship program and maintaining Straw Hat’s online presence. Like all of Straw Hat’s owners she is an artist in her own right. In addition to her print work she also creates drawings, paintings, and videos and has been featured in several local emerging artist shows while also showing in national exhibitions.

Straw Hat’s photogravure cowboy, Shaun, oversees the fiscal duties in addition to managing Straw Hat’s Etsy shop. Shaun has a background in commercial printing, which helped him hone his skills as the shop’s color wizard. He makes process-intensive work about the process intensive nature of modern food and culture production. When not at Straw Hat or eating a cheeseburger, Shaun also teaches print and drawing workshops in the Atlanta area.

Artists

Making a print takes knowledge, dedication, luck and enthusiasm. These are some of the artists we have worked with to date. Without them we never could have made it this far.
